Sketchavember #13 / #30

While I definitely failed Sketchavember, I've still got another drawing to share.
Got two new sketchbooks yesterday dirt cheap during Black Friday! (actually it was after black friday but the craft store still had a great sale going *w*)

I've been wanting to try gray tone paper for a while now! I love being able to add white vs dark shading and Sil was the perfect subject to break in the first page! Hnnnnggh I love this paper <3

See you in December!

Sketchavember #11

FEEEEEEEEEEELS FFFFFFFFJjfjjjgfkj

Having uber feels tonight about Lea and Val. I started writing their chapter almost three years ago and good god I think I might go ahead and go for a re-write and just finish it! Theirs is one of my favorite tales among my many chapters <33

Decided to sketch them up. Still gotta work on clothing designs for Val. Played with his hair a bit more-- also messed around with Lea's clothes and hairstyle (those braids on her head are still a bitch to draw). Although I have official designs, their hair and outfits do change from time to time. Ughhhhh my babiessss!!!!

Ahhhhh all my norse and viking feels HNGH <33

Sketchavember #10 (or something)

NOSTALGIAAAAA POWERING UP.

Okay so Rhapsody (Marl Okoku Ningyo Hime) was among my favorite games for the Playstation when I was little. Oh man so much inspiration from it too. I was stoked when it was re-released for the DS a few years back (since my copy for the Playstation perished a long time ago :c). Decided to pay some homage to a childhood favorite and draw Cornet!

Also I'm failing Sketchavember. Yep. Oops.

Sketchavember #9

FINALLY drew one of my babies in their wolf forms! :'D

Fureya, Ronan and Kahli (among others) are all Ulvarians and their true form was once that of a rather GIANT wolf. Over time (hundreds of years) they adapted and evolved and gained the ability to shift back and forth from wolf to human. Aside from defending or hunting, Ulvarians normally remain in their human forms.

Now I gotta draw the rest of 'em in wolf form! Need more practice drawing wolvessss >_>

Sketchavember #6

Errrrdaaaaaay Jasmine teaaa.

I don't know how to draw cartoony shit.

Sketchavember #5

Open or closed eye lines?

I've always been a fan of both. Although the majority of the time my influence in drawing over the years has led me to draw open eye lines more frequently. The closed lines are something I've always been a fan of like in comics and animated films. Honestly I think both are beautiful, but when it comes to style I'm wondering about which I should stick to?

I mean like... are there rules to this sort of thing? Would the world as we know it fall into deeper turmoil if I decided to incorporate both in my art (and in my future comic)? I feel like some form of consistency should be applied here but I figure depending on the angle or expression the eye is creating, or the different shape of each unique character's eyes, they're going to be open or closed lines at some point anyway right?

So... using both in say, the same comic, wouldn't be a crime would it? Serious question time because I NEED TO KNOW :|

Also this is my Sketchavember post because fuck the rules. (I'm really bad at challenges OTL)

Sketchavember #3

Its been a long, sad, few days recently.

I only just now realized how much that has come across and affected my art/writing recently. I promise I'll do something less saddening with upcoming work.

For soon a moment of silence. Love you always,  Kiika.

Sketchavember #2

Alright. I want most of this challenge to be art related and not so much writing. But I decided to break out of my rather solid cocoon and do a segment from part of my writing. I picked an easy one, focused more on settings and feelings-- mostly to get my bearings and break back into writing because I can face the music and I know I'm quite dreadful at it. But I've got a lot to write about in the realm of my original writing, so why the hell not.

I realize its not quite a full chapter, which the challenge suggests. But I wanted to catch up and still have day #3 to get started on. And who knows-- maybe I'll have time to work on this further! Wither way it was definitely a great exercise. I learned that from spending three solid hours in the wee hours of the night trying to come up with just these few paragraphs and then come morning realize what shite I'd condemned the internet to while I caught up on z's.

Managed to spend twenty minutes or so making some editions on it today to make it less nauseating to read. I've got my weak points, but hopefully its alright.

-------------------------------
“We should get out of the rain-- come on. I kno’ a place.”

Escaping the rain before being soaked to the bone wasn’t a likely scenario for the two unlikely partners. As if the unforgiving weather and the smelly, ramshackled condition of the streets weren’t bad enough-- they needed to seek refuge from both the rain and the group of shady apprehenders they’d just outrun.

Eliel kept her hood tight over her long, braided hair as she and Mic sprinted through the rain to find shelter. Mic led them down a quiet little alley and up a couple flights of rusty old steps to the side door of an old, abandoned building, finally stepping out of the rain. They made their way down a dark hall; it looked as if no one had lived there in years. Old, chipped paint falling off the walls and not a sound but that of the rain outside. Surprisingly not as dirty as it could have been-- some broken glass and some minor garbage littered the cold, musty halls.

“Here we are.” Mic pulled out a key that presumably belonged to the door he’d stopped them at.

This was odd. He’d never mentioned this place before. Eliel furrowed her brow, “I thought you said you didn’t have a home?” she asked, curious about the place he’d brought them to.

“I don’t.” he smiled as he unlocked the door and entered the dusky old room.

Confused by his wording, she followed him in and looked over the place. It wasn’t a large space, nor was it very tidy-- more cluttered than anything, “so then, what is this place?” she pondered further.

“Well, it was home. Once upon a time.” he muttered, removing his soaked leather jacket and tossing it carelessly on the floor.

Eliel took off her now drenched, new hooded coat and followed Mic’s lead as it landed on the floor. While Mic tended to providing them with some heat, Eliel began to wander the room and look around. Among the majority of rather useless looking junk, there some were old stuffed animals, bunches of clothes on the floor and draped over what little furniture was in the room, a few well used candles, and a couple of old mattresses and blankets near the only window in the room.

There was also a vanity with a dirty, broken, old mirror with a single framed photo resting on its edge. Eliel picked it up and dusted off the frame. Mic was in the photo, along with a younger looking girl.

“Who’s this?”

Mic looked over to see Eliel holding the photo and warm smile came across his face, “that’s my little sister.”

Eliel’s eyes lit up. Siblings were always fascinating to her as she never had any of her own. Why hadn’t Mic mentioned her before? The girl in the photo looked younger than him certainly; a little sister just as he said. “Does she live here?”

Mic’s gaze fell and his smile grew somber.

Sketchavember #1

Okay so... three days behind because I didn’t find out until yesterday. We’ll call this #1 for Sketchavember.

Letting this fall into the warm-up sketch/comic panels category. Because I have no idea what this even is. Was just drawing to some music and illustrated the lyrics. I don’t even—

Guilty of rushing this since I'm trying to play 'catch-up' with this challenge.

Greetings!

Okay so first post.

I was prompted to start this blog for the Sketchavember event for the month of November-- a creative challenge I've decided to take on to improve all of artistic areas where I'm weakest (or at least already trying to improve).

Originally I'd played with the idea of starting a blog to share my art apart from my stomping grounds on deviantart and my scattered art postings on tumblr. Truth is I was content with that so I never went about doing it. But this will be a good way for me to keep a portfolio of all my work without any distracting posts in between. A place to dump any of my sketches and see how I progress over time. So in between the challenge and thereafter, with the second challenge being that I keep up with this blog, I'll continue to post here afterwards as well.

Now. I'm already three days behind for Sketchavember. Lets see if I can catch up.

Thanks fer stoppin' by and if you stick around, well I hope I can provide some inspiration or enjoyment for ya.
